Social impact

Feeling safe includes being self-assured and feeling free from criticism. A sense of belonging is also crucial to our life satisfaction, happiness, mental and physical health, and even our longevity.

There is a drastic change in behaviour when we go from “Me” to “We”. A person that is focused only on himself will focus primarily on just his personal survival and quality of life for himself, but as soon as that person begins to think of himself as a member of a larger group of people, personal motivations change. We are all part of the same game.

In a diverse society, we are moving away from stereotypes. Humans identify with individuality. Each person has their talents and issues, and by acknowledging both these strengths and weaknesses, we validate the identity of each individual and their importance to the social fabric.

Imagining a different perspective does not really improve our ability to understand how another person is thinking or feeling. However, when we engage in dialogue before making predictions, we can learn how the other person might feel. Gaining insight makes it possible to obtain new information instead of using existing, sometimes biased, data about another person. Don’t guess, ask.

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. We should all be able to access health care and information regardless of who we are, where we live or how well-off we are.

Work

Representation

A fundamental redesign of the relationship between work and income is necessary. Reconsider the value of work, not judged by the labour market, but according to its importance for society. Investing in children and education, taking care of the next generation. Among employees, 70% seek purposeful work, and they want the company they work for to take a strong position on social issues.

Women face structural and cultural barriers as they seek leadership roles. Structural barriers are the result of established traditional networks and power structures. The workplace needs to be an equal environment on all fronts. Closing the global gender pay gap at the current pace could potentially result in closures in 52.1 years in Western Europe and 61.5 years in North America.

Young people’s expectations in the workplace are value driven and in alignment with their personal morals. Gen Z is bringing a fresh perspective to the world. As the most racially and ethnically diverse generation, they navigate through their values and seek diversity amongst their peers. While they are risk-averse, they are changing society, work and communication. Innovation needs the input of Gen Z, invite them in and make them part of the team.

Digital transformation accelerates existing workforce inequalities. Women, Black and Hispanic workers are among the most at risk of job disruption from AI and other emerging technologies. Upskilling and reskilling pathways are needed to bring all workers into the future.

Autonomy lies beyond the individual. Through co-creation, possibilities emerge. Working together requires connecting and communication skills. Work as a team, with team dynamics and team recognition.

Sports can be a particularly tradition-bound industry that often translates into a reluctance to change. The lack of innovation and design on behalf of female athletes in itself is largely due to a lack of inclusion and diversity. An industry survey showed that up to eighty per cent of all decisions in a sports company are made by men.

Sport is for everyone, but, in practice, there is still much that needs to be done to improve accessibility. Sports such as basketball lack barriers to entry, it is universally accessible and class-agnostic. The ability of sport to connect, grow and heal is a powerful offering to society.

Helping other people can bring us a sense of purpose. Volunteering time, money, or energy to help others does not just make the world a bit better; it also affects our well-being, health, and happiness.

A community that cooks together stays together. Inviting community members to bring their recipes and traditions to gather and share. Recipes are archives and a way of sharing a part of ourselves with others.

Social and economic factors such as income, education, employment, community safety and social support can have a significant impact on how well and long we live. Products and services where monetary, social, and psychological values come together, that solve real problems and contribute to a healthier, fairer society.

Financial well-being includes being able to pay debts, meet current needs, overcome unexpected financial emergencies, and plan for long-term financial goals, such as college tuition and saving for retirement.

By helping underrepresented employees turn wages into longterm wealth, companies can play a pivotal role in fuelling financial success to transform future generations.

Design does not progress in isolation; it is culture created by people. Crafts should not be labelled a tradition that must guard against progress. Crafts intersect with all cultural domains: economic, social, political, and rituals. Artisan enterprises around the world provide local incomes, preserve ancient cultures and safeguard them for the future.

The affordable housing crisis has many effects on society. Families with high housing costs experience greater stress regarding food security, health care, retirement, transportation and overall social stability. Young people are living at home longer because of high rents, which hinder their personal development and independence.

Consumption is not the only thing that needs collaboration; collaboration offers the opportunity to create transformative social wealth. Share society, lending and sharing programs and open source initiatives are based on the sharing of knowledge and goods.
